About
Us
Highworth
Camera Club was formed in 1982, with the aim of promoting and
encouraging photography in all its forms in the town and surrounding
area.
Prior to the formation of the club, a course on photography was
available at Warneford School as part of evening adult education.
When the course ended, the members wanted to remain in contact
with each other, so the club was formed, initially meeting at
North View School before moving to the Council Community Room.
Twenty four years later, two of the original membership of over
forty, remain members. (at the time of writing).
Whilst the bulk of the members live in Highworth, there are many
from “out of town”, places such as Bampton, Shrivenham,
Ashbury, Lechlade, Stratton St Margaret, Liddington and many areas
of Swindon. You do not have to live in Highworth.
The club prides itself in providing for photographers of all standards
from beginner to accomplished. Current membership consists of
those with one camera using commercial processors to those with
large systems and their own darkroom. Many members have made the
change to digital photography.
The
annual programme is varied and includes talks by outside speakers
or members themselves, practical evenings such as still life or
portraiture sessions. Once a year we usually go on an “Outdoor
Shoot” to a local place of interest to take pictures. There
are slide shows and competitions and a presentation evening at
Christmas. Sometimes we have print and slide battles with other
clubs in the area.
The
club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Northfield Community
Centre, The Domers, Highworth, SN6 7PQ [click
here for map] . Details of monthly meetings are published
in Link and often in the Evening Advertiser. Members receive a
monthly newsletter.
The club enjoys
the support of many local businesses in the form of sponsorship
for its various competitions. An annual exhibition is held in
the Autumn.
